Program

General objectives

  • Learn about the active ingredients in whiteners on the market today, how they work, how they differ, and why we choose one over another.

  • Be able to take photographic and color-coded records of the case as a legal measure and to monitor improvement over time.

  • Knowing which tooth whitening treatment is best for each case, and knowing what guidelines and recommendations we will give the patient to achieve the optimal result for as long as possible.

  • Being able to manage side effects before they appear.

  • Know the protocol for designing and manufacturing whitening splints.

Highlighted features

In-person theoretical course aimed at dentists and their dental nurses or hygienists who want to update their knowledge of teeth whitening and learn how to get the most out of it.

Small group course, customized, which takes place over two days at the center.

The first day will cover the entire theoretical foundation of teeth whitening. The second day, which will take place in the morning, will be the practical part of the course.

No previous knowledge is required on the subject, since the course is organized to develop the entire theory from the foundations and in a chronology that facilitates its understanding.

The organization will provide all students with all the necessary materials for the hands-on part of the course.

Coffee breaks will be provided by the organization.

Block 1

Introduction to teeth whitening

  • Definition
  • Discolorations, classification.
  • Bleaching agents, how they work, classification.
  • Factors influencing outcome include agent type, treatment concentration and duration, agent activation.
  • Precautions.

Block 2

Step-by-step clinic

  • Medical history and anamnesis, key points to keep in mind.
  • Excluding factors.
  • Taking photographs.
  • Color measurement, objective and subjective.
  • Expectations and forecast.
  • Taking impressions and making splints.
  • Features. Presentations: in-office, combined, home delivery. When, how, and why.

Block 3

Instructions for use, management of side effects, care and maintenance of whitening

  • Patient instructions.
  • Hygienic and dietary recommendations.
  • Tobacco.
  • Hypersensitivity.
  • Gingival irritation.
  • Macro and microstructural alterations.
  • Follow-up visits.
  • Maintenance.
  • Relapse.

Block 4

Protocols according to the clinical situation

  • Patient with a dark tooth.
  • Patient with dark teeth.
  • Patient with a dark tooth with root canal treatment.
  • Tetracycline cases.
  • Cases of hypocalcification.

Hands on

  • Color taking and monitoring change.

  • Preparation and design of reservoirs in cases where they may be useful.

  • Making custom whitening trays.
